Being healthy is more than just consuming whole foods. It encompasses 6 pillars of wellness that we need to live a life uplifted. If you think it’s all just about eating right and maybe even doing exercises a few times per week, this blog post is for you! You will learn what these 6 pillars are, what they mean for your health, and how you can integrate them into your life.
The 6 pillars of wellness that I work with my clients encompass all areas that impact overall health in my programs, and they are:
- Nutrition
- Detoxification
- Rest
- Mindset
- Movement
- Relationships
When my clients and I work together, we focus a lot on nutrition, of course, but every other aspect of your health is discussed as well. It’s tough to experience true wellness if you don’t address all six. So let’s dive deeper into each!
Nutrition
Nutrition encompasses all nutrients you consume. So focus on nutrient consumption in this nutrition pillar because fueling well is so important on how you feel. If you’re consuming empty calories and not getting the proper nutrients for your body, that will have some issues. What you can do is to integrate meal prep, juicing, and consume whole foods to avoid consuming just empty calories.
Detoxification
This encompasses hydration, liver health, digestion, and making sure your elimination pathways are open and draining properly. When you consume the right foods, elimination will become easier (do you see how these pillars are starting to connect?).
Rest
This includes restful sleep and alone time because rest is how your body repairs and recharges. You need it specifically for your brain as your brain cleans itself in your sleep.
Mindset
Mindset, emotional health, self-talk have a massive impact on your overall health. I always say you can’t hate yourself for being healthy. So if your mind is not right, then that’s going to have an impact on your health. Meditation, journaling, getting support from a therapist and/or life coach are helpful ways to keep your mindset healthy and happy.
Movement
This includes walking, exercising, I like dancing, stretching, really anything that gets your blood flowing. Choose the type of movement that you enjoy so that you won’t dread doing it.
Relationships
This means your relationship with God, your relationship with yourself, and your relationship with others (both platonically and romantically). Relationships are huge because if you do not have good relationships, you don’t have a support system, or your relationships are very stressful. This will negatively impact your health.
So what happens when one of these is off? I like to use the analogy of a Jenga game. Imagine your health are two layers of that Jenga game, so six blocks. If you take away one, it’s not going to fall over. If you take out two, it’s getting wobbly, and three, you’re toast.
The same with your health; if one of your main areas is off, let’s say sleep, for example, but you’re eating well, your mindset is strong, you move your body, you have good relationships with yourself and others, and your body detoxes normally, then lack of sleep won’t be as detrimental as it would be if you weren’t sleeping, eating fast food, have a sedentary lifestyle, and poor relationship that causes a lot of stress.
Do you see how we need to actively work on all aspects to support your wellness as a whole? Everything is connected, so it’s silly to think one won’t impact another.
I’ve been sleep-deprived for over a year and a half. It started when my daughter was born (mamas, you know the struggle). But it only recently got better about a week ago. So for 18 months, I was up multiple times per night, sometimes hours at a time, and I maintained living and working and doing all the things despite being dangerously sleep-deprived. I handled nights alone, so I had no relief. Although I noticed my anxiety was higher and I was more irritable, I could still function like an adult who got sleep. That only happened because I was on point with my nutrition, made sure my detox pathways are open, took care of my mental health, and moved my body. Don’t get me wrong; I had times where I was like, “I cannot do this anymore, I feel like I’m withering away,” but I know my body held up better than it would’ve if I didn’t take care of my other health pillars outside of sleep. It’s incredible what the body can do when you give it what it needs.
In my upcoming new program, Energy Equation, we address all six of these pillars. It’s a holistic wellness program that will help you ditch the depletion, renew yourself and reclaim your energy because you are created to thrive.
It’s no longer acceptable to just survive your days anymore. Struggling shouldn’t be your norm. You will have hard days and seasons, maybe, but overall, your body and your health should be resilient. So this new program is more than just a course you take, it’s a new lifestyle you build, and that will trickle into every area of your life to enjoy it more. That’s the goal: to feel good so you can live greater.

To end this: honor the body you’ve been given. Take care of yourself so you can live fully in God’s will for your life. If you need motivation, let that be it. A thank you of sorts for having breath in your lungs. Honor that gift. Daily.
With joy and health,
