Coconut oil might just be one of my favorite things EVER. Yes, ever. It’s extremely versatile and the health benefits are astounding.
The other day I was noticing how much coconut oil is a part of my daily routine. I racked my brain and counted eight different ways that I use coconut oil every day. I had to share them with you!
- Oil pulling: The minute I wake up, coconut oil is the first thing I grab. Oil pulling is a part of my daily routine that I can’t live without.
- Toothpaste: Believe it or not, I make my own toothpaste with coconut oil. My dentist says my teeth look perfect every time I go! Get my recipe for my homemade toothpaste so you can start making your own.
- Smoothie boost: I’ve read countless studies about coconut oil and the benefits it has when you consume it internally. It boosts your memory, increases your metabolism, and burns fat. I always add a heaping tablespoon into my smoothies because once it’s blended up, you don’t even know the coconut oil is in there, but you’re getting all the great health benefits! I’ve noticed that I sleep better, have a faster metabolism, and my waist has gotten smaller since I’ve been having coconut oil daily.
- Shaving cream: I have very sensitive skin and I could never find a shaving cream that wouldn’t leave me with razor burn. One day I got a crazy idea to just use coconut oil, and I haven’t looked back since. Zero razor burn and it softens your legs as you shave! Just rub it on and shave, that’s it. It works great for men to use on their face and neck as well. The skin won’t get irritated even when shaving every day.
- Lotion for dry skin: For people with dry, cracked heels, coconut oil is a miracle worker. Use on dry elbows or as face lotion, too! I even use it as lip balm sometimes.
- Cooking oil: Another way to internally consume coconut oil is to use it in your cooking. It stands up to high heat so it’s great for roasting veggies, in a stir-fry, or for a boost in soups and stews just to name a few!
- Eye makeup remover: For us ladies, there’s nothing better than taking all your makeup off at the end of the day. I don’t know about you, but I hate eye makeup removers that burn your eyes and leave them dry and red. I could never find one that I liked and ended up using makeup wipes most of the time. It wasn’t working for me and so I started using coconut oil! It removes makeup like a charm. Heavy mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, you name it. And it nourishes your eyes at the same time. My eyelashes are softer and I think they’ve even gotten longer since I’ve started using coconut oil as my eye makeup remover. Just a dime-sized amount is enough for both eyes.
- Dog food: I recently started giving my dog coconut oil and he loves it! I add it to his food, or just let him lick it by the spoonful. Coconut oil provides many health benefits for dogs in the same way it does for us humans!
Because coconut oil is used for personal use, in the kitchen, and for dogs, it’s important to separate your coconut oil. I always keep one jar in my shower, a small container in my cabinet (for makeup remover), a jar in my bedroom (for lotion), and a large jar in the kitchen for multiple uses.
What kind of coconut oil should you buy? Organic, cold-pressed and unrefined. I buy large jars at Costco and fill mason jars for my different uses. Nutiva also makes high-quality coconut oil.
Are you sold on coconut oil yet? I could talk about it all day 🙂
With joy and health,
