I don’t know about you, but I’m typically a night person. However, if I start my day correctly, I can be a morning person as well. The way we start our day will usually determine how the rest of the day is going to go. If we get up late, rush out of the house, and race to get to work on time, we start off the day stressed and anxious. Stress and anxiety slow down the metabolism and our body will not digest food properly. This can lead to weight gain, fatigue, and bloating. Speaking of food, if you don’t get a good breakfast in at the start of the day, your body will go into starvation mode. We don’t want that, so breakfast is a must! The vitamins and minerals from food are required for your body to perform essential functions. Whether you’re working, have the day off, or enjoying a beach day, the adrenal glands and brain need fuel. Without it, they become over worked and exhausted. It’s hard to comprehend just how much work our bodies do on a daily basis to keep us going. Let’s give our bodies a jumpstart everyday by establishing a rejuvenating morning routine.
I’ll share my morning routine with you for some inspiration:
Upon waking, I do a few stretches. This gets my body loosened up from being in bed all night and gets the blood flowing. Sometimes I’ll even bust out a handstand to get blood flow to my brain. It’s fun!
After my quick stretch, I do 15-20 minutes of oil pulling. You can read about oil pulling here.
I, then, enjoy a glass of warm water with lemon juice (+ raw apple cider vinegar occasionally). The water and lemon juice jumpstarts the body and wakes up all the organs to get going for the day. This is a must have for me. Without my lemon water, I can tell my digestion becomes sluggish. If you struggle with “getting things moving” in the morning I highly recommend drinking 16 ounces of warm water with the juice of 1/2 lemon. You can even try out my morning cocktail which helps improve digestion even more.
While I’m drinking my lemon water I’ll do some reading and/or writing. I find that when I get my brain going first thing in the morning I can think more clearly throughout the day. It’s very helpful to set intentions for the day, a to-do list of sorts. When you have a plan of action for the day you are much more likely to be productive. Schedule in your meals too! You want to stick to a regular schedule of eating so you don’t experience blood sugar crashes which can lead to fatigue and cravings.
After my lemon water/reading/writing session, I make breakfast. This includes but is not limited to a green smoothie, green juice, breakfast hash, or just plain fresh fruit. But, I’ll be honest, it’s usually a green smoothie 🙂 My all-time original favorite is my Lean & Green Smoothie.
I am, of course, getting ready as I’m doing all of this. And I am also diffusing essential oils according to what I want to feel that day. My favorite essential oils for focus are Clarity + Orange, my “happy blend” is Joy + Lemon, and my “energize mix” is Peppermint + Tangerine. I use Young Living Essential Oils because after much research, they are the most pure and therapeutic essential oils you can find.
So as you can probably tell, you have to wake up a little bit earlier to get your morning routine in, but it’s well worth it. And after a week or so, it all becomes habit! Taking the time to have a morning routine has become essential in my life. Now that I shared my morning routine with you, it’s time to make your own! Write down 5 things you would like to start doing every morning. Get up a few minutes earlier everyday and give it a try for at least one week. I can guarantee that you will soon make your morning routine an essential part of your life as well.
With joy and health,
