Brain-boosting, fat-burning, inflammation-busting, energy-enhancing smoothie. I wanted to call it that, but felt like Tropical Turmeric Twister was a tad shorter 🙂
A great tasting smoothie and it has loads of medicinal benefits… what else could you want? Especially with Summer approaching; you’re going to want something refreshing like this smoothie. I guarantee it!
Turmeric has been in the spotlight lately for how great it is for the body. Especially when it comes to controlling inflammation. Whether it be from rigorous exercise, environmental toxins, emotional stress, or the result of eating too much sugar, we could all use more anti-inflammatory goodness in our daily diet. And bonus: turmeric makes your mind better – simply put. I’ll skip on the science for today 🙂 Keep this in mind: eat turmeric, stay sharp. That’s how I like to think of it!
I also use coconut oil in this smoothie which we all know I’m a huge fan of. It’s my go-to for almost anything these days. Toothpaste, mouthwash, cooking, shaving, moisturizer, makeup remover… you name it, I do it! I recently wrote a blog about different ways to use coconut oil. I put it in this smoothie particularly to help with energy and brain health. Since our brain is mostly made up of fat, the coconut oil nourishes the brain and keeps it young. I don’t know about you, but I want to keep my brain healthy for as long as possible! Coconut oil is also wonderful for increasing energy – the steady energy that doesn’t have a crash like you get with caffeine or sugar.
Now pineapple is all good and tasty, but it has medicinal properties of its own – specifically in the enzyme department. The enzyme, bromelain, is helpful for digesting proteins, but it also eats away at nasty things like foreign microbes and parasites in the intestinal tract. Pineapple is loaded with bromelain, so it helps support the body’s digestive system as a whole. Win!
Alright let’s get to the recipe…
- 1 cup coconut milk
- ½ cup frozen pineapple
- ½ banana
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 1 tsp. ground turmeric
- A dash of black pepper (to help the turmeric absorb better)
- Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender and drink up!
Ain’t no getting old here! Food can keep you young or it can age you faster. The choice is up to you 🙂
