Having a healthy and robust immune system is key during the winter. Eating during the winter is different than other seasons as we work to include nourishing foods that support the kidneys and adrenals. It’s all about foods that feed the organs that have to work overtime during the colder weather.
Foods that grow best at this time of the year, like root vegetables, are meant to provide loads of nutrients that ground our energy. These foods are nutrient dense and full of antioxidants to help combat free radicals. If we can reduce the amount of free radicals in our bodies, we will slow down the process of aging. Who wouldn’t want that? Forever young, yes please!
Deciphering which foods are best to eat during this time of year is fairly simple. The darker the color of the food, the more it supports the kidneys and adrenals, specifically purple fruits and vegetables like figs, blackberries, cabbage, eggplant, and onions.
And then there are the immune boosting foods that are spectacular all year round like garlic and lemons. But I wanted to give you my top 15 favorites for the winter season.
The top foods I suggest are:
- Collard Greens
- Kale
- Garlic
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Beets
- Onions
- Lemons
- Carrots
- Cabbage
- Raw, local honey
- Elderberries or Elderberry Syrup
- Dates and Figs
- Bone Broth
- Chia and Flax seeds
Variety is key. Having one food every single day over and over will actually hinder your immune system. Rotate your foods to consume as many different fruits and vegetables as possible.
Are you confused about how to incorporate all these foods?
Next Tuesday I am releasing my WINTER Reset & Refresh Program that was created specifically to nourish your body during the winter season. I give you a 35+ page guide, over 50 recipes, a meal plan, and shopping list. I am also offering a bonus short e-book about how to kill your sugar cravings. It’s a DIY program that you can keep for a lifetime and learn my tools of the trade to easily incorporate a healthy lifestyle. My program releases on the first day of Winter, December 22nd!
